Montegrappa, founded in 1912 in Bassano del Grappa, is still involved today in a dispute with Aurora and Tibaldi over who is the first producer of fountain pens in Italy. By date of foundation it is undoubtedly the oldest of the three but the production of fountain pens seems to date to around the early 1920s, hence the controversy. It remains that Montegrappa is among an Italian producer still active and with an excellent quality level, unscathed by a double change of hands in the early 2000s, first acquired by Richemont, already owner of Montblanc, and then returned, in 2009, to the Aquila family.
