The release of Flash marks Montegrappa’s return to the world of DC Comics after The Batman (Cult, 2022).

Fueled by the 2023 film of the same name, Flash is less maximalist by comparison, but more accessible and equally effective in revealing the superpowers and iconic appeal of its subject. Flash makes strikingly modern use of sterling silver and vermeil across all trim components.

The cap’s top disc is a feature inspired by Flash’s costume ring, a key accessory that holds the DC superhero’s racing suit, created with high-relief engraving and vermeil.

The seal’s precision and modernity is carried through to a custom-milled clip and a thin cap band, both of which exploit the fast-forward detailing seen on the film character’s boots. Under the cap, engraving on the vermeil grip sections references the Doppler effect, a distortion of frequencies that occurs at high speed.

A sense of speed permeates the rest of the edition’s design.

Crimson red is Flash’s signature color, and dominates a streamlined cap and one-piece barrel.

Surface engraving mimics the all-over Turing motif found on the modern character’s suit, while deep laser-cut slits are filled with fine-line gold enamel to mimic the costume’s piping that lights up whenever Flash calls upon his superpowers.

The franchise’s lightning emblem is one of the most iconic logos in comics, and is used to lend a sense of speed to the ø6mm 18K yellow gold nibs (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1). Cartridge/converter filling is used due to the unique design of the one-piece barrel.

The edition’s packaging doubles the character’s livery and emblem, adding vermeil and hot stamping to a lacquered wooden case and cardboard outer box.
