F1® SPEED is a luxury, hand-crafted, limited-edition writing collection designed and manufactured by Montegrappa in collaboration with the owners of the FIA Formula One World Championship™. Key product information is as follows:

Using high-gloss black lacquer and yellow gold plating, PODIUM BLACK is the second colour variant in Montegrappa’s F1® SPEED collection, released in time for the start of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship™ season. The new update adopts a bold, champion’s aesthetic to contrast the sporty finishing of F1® SPEED – RACING RED;

F1® SPEED uses advanced engineering, materials and design to recall hallmark elements of Formula 1® racing. Carbon fibre is used to create a grip section with unrivalled strength and weight. Carbon fibre is also used in the construction of the cap;

An all-brass barrel offers strength and heft, and uses a radical flared profile achieved using computer-controlled multi-axis milling. Barrel sections are precision-machined individually before being finished with layers of lacquer;

Additional hardware is milled and cast from brass and protected with thick, preciousmetal plating. Numerically-controlled machining is also used to shape a unique 3Dmodelled step that creates a smooth transition from barrel to grip section, leading to enhanced comfort and confident handle;

Adapting external design codes to the shape and functional demands of highperformance writing instruments requires special expertise and extensive prototyping. Design and development work for F1® SPEED spanned a period of 18 months;

Other materials provide playful enhancements that double down on the silhouette’s celebration of speed. A sterling-silver wheel hub features within a brass finial that replicates Formula 1® racing slicks. At the opposite end, car exhaust systems inspire a serial number housing realised in scorched stainless steel;

Available in rollerball and fountain pen modes, F1® SPEED balances the dynamics of Formula 1® design with the ergonomics of fine writing. Fountain pens are cartridge/converter-driven, and are fitted with a handmade 18K gold custom nib, available in six writing grades;

All variants of F1® SPEED are issued in limited editions of 372 numbered pieces, honouring the top speed ever recorded in a FIA Formula One World Championship™ race: 372.6 km/h by Juan Pablo Montoya (McLaren-Mercedes) during the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO VODAFONE D'ITALIA 2005;

Montegrappa has a strong record of collaboration with motorsport. As well as supplying all prestige Italian marques over the years, official editions for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Ayrton Senna feature in the manufacture’s back-catalogue. In 2020, Montegrappa celebrated 70 years of Formula 1® with F1® Seventy while former Ferrari driver, Jean Alesi, has been an investor in the company since 2010;

The new FIA Formula One World Championship™ season begins with the FORMULA 1 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX on 20 March, 2022. This year’s championship sees ten teams contesting the title over 22 rounds, culminating in November’s season finale in Abu Dhabi.
